Effects and Outcomes

Pettengell's effort followed a number of similar efforts, most notably "The Woman Who Toils, Being the Experiences of Two Gentlewomen as Factory Girls," the best-selling effort of the sisters-in-law, Bessie and Marie (Mrs. John) van Vorst, also published as a series in Everybody's and then as a book by Doubleday.
