...on an unseasonably warm night last Feb. 23, Dr. Frank Abernathy welcomed approximately 60 of us - some were Klan members but most were not Klansmen - to his rambling ranch-style residence about 25 miles from Birmingham. There Don Black, then Alabama Grand Dragon, appealed to all who were there to join his Klan Knights.

Description:In Thompson's third report on his year spent undercover as a Klansman he describes a recruiting function at the home of a respectable Alabama doctor. Thompson reflects on the Klan's recruiting techniques and says that its not so much their numbers that frighten him, but that they have the sympathies of seemingly respectable citizens. Thompson's entire "My Life with the Klan" series was reprinted by The Tennessean as a separate book with the same title.
